The holiday season is one of the merriest celebrations we have been acquainted with. As a child, we were fascinated by the dashing decorations, glamorous gifts and fabulous foods all around. We still do, as adults, right? However, there are a lot more concerns we have now that we are adults, adding to the stress and tension, instead of the delight of the season. One of the things that can bother most of us during the partying and celebrations is weight gain during the holiday season. For a healthy Christmas celebration, here are seven tips to help you avoid gaining weight:
1. Enjoy lean meat.
If you’re going to prepare your own dish, use dark or white meat as they are leaner and lower in calories. When cooking pork, choose tenderloin. If you have a turkey served, avoid the skin and gravy since loads of fat are definitely present on them.
2. Eat more vegetables.
Instead of stuffing yourself with turkey, pies, sweets, and other goodies, get more vegetables. They contain more fiber and lower calories so you don’t have to worry about becoming bigger after a load of it.
3. Add some nuts and pumpkin.
Walnuts and pecans are found to help keep you away from overeating, aside from other healthful benefits like protein, potassium and vitamin E that you will get. Also, include pumpkin as one of your Christmas Day vegetables. It has loads of fiber plus vitamins C and E, and beta-carotene.
4. Avoid creams and sugar.
Prepare your meat dishes through broiling or roasting and vegetable dishes through steaming or boiling. Sure, creamy preparations and sugar will add great flavor to your dishes but they can definitely add greatly to your weight, as well if consumed readily.
5. Drink more water and tea.
Loads of beer and wine will pile up this season but you can always change to water and green tea once in a while. Try drinking water or tea before eating. This will help you from overeating. Drinking water and tea will also speed up your metabolism to keep away the unwanted fat.
6. Party and play with family and friends.
Since Christmas is about family and friendly gatherings, there’s more than just eating and drinking. You can make the party more fun by employing games and outdoor fun so everybody can remain active. Indulge everyone in fun activities which can be a form of exercise, as well.
7. Sleep.
Getting enough sleep will help curb your cravings. If you don’t have a good night’s sleep, the more you will have sugar cravings which will likely lead you to weight gain.
